Modern Wall Clocks

Posted on: October 4, 2011

Modern wall clocks are modern-day interpretations of the old grand wall clocks that would be found in every proper home around the world.  Today's modern wall clocks come in a variety of sizes and shapes.  The clocks of older times however, were excellent works of art, and also of excellent craftsmanship.  Their designs were fairly standardized.  They were usually made out of the finest hardwoods, and their craftsmanship was something to behold.  Today's modern wall clocks can be found for just about any budget available, and while they are nice to look at, they are interpretations of ones that many remember in their grandparents homes, or in a relative's home, as these were truly pieces of furnishing that every proper home had around the world.

Every person over a certain age remembers going into a home and looking up at all at a decorative wall clock.  The wall clocks that hung on the wall were wall clocks that were high up to the ceiling, and that were built down to the floor.  If a person remembers the wall clock that was in a relative's home, then they probably remember standing up, and looking at it in awe, listening to the pendulum swinging back and forth.  Everyone can relate to the sound of the pendulum lulling them into a hypnotic state of fascination.  They also remember the intricate designs of the hands on the face of the decorative wall clock.  Some wall clocks had huge pendulums, while some had other intricate designs such as crystal merry-go-round designs in the middle.  Some modern wall clocks are made out of hard wood, while some are made out of crystal.

Newer and more modern wall clocks are being designed to meet modern taste.  For example, they are being created with novelty designs on the faces, and some of them even have modern technology built into them, such as holographic designs.  The holographic designs are especially fascinating, because they only display the time after the pendulum swings back and forth on the face of the clocks.  These are usually the type of clocks that are only a foot long, and that are hung up high on the wall.  They make interesting conversation pieces, and people who collect clocks like to buy a wide variety of them.  It's not uncommon for a person to hang multiple decorative wall clocks on one face of the wall to create the look of a modern museum, based around their clocks.

Decorative wall clocks have always been objects of fascination.  That might seem hard to believe, because essentially all they do is tell the time.  However, people are fascinated by clocks of grand scale.  They are also fascinated by the old clocks that give off familiar chimes.  The most familiar clock that anyone would know about is Big Ben, located in London.  It's amazing that something like a clock would be such a world-wide tourist attraction, but it's true.  There's something fascinating about these timepieces that many people to this day are still fascinated by.
